Anesthesia for Oral Surgery in Steele Creek & Fort Mill

Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are highly trained and qualified in the field of anesthesia. They undergo 4-6 years of additional hospital training including six months as an anesthesia resident learning to deliver all types of anesthesia and monitoring patients throughout the procedure. No two patients or procedures are alike, and everyone has the right to feel calm and comfortable during surgery. Talk to our office about any dental or surgical anxieties you are experiencing, along with your preference on the level of sedation.

Special instructions before IV sedation include:

  • You may not have anything to eat or drink (including water) for eight (8) hours prior to the procedure
  • No smoking at least 12 hours before surgery. Ideally, cut down or stop smoking as soon as possible prior to the day of surgery.
  • A responsible adult must accompany the patient to the office, remain in the office during the procedure, and drive the patient home.
  • The patient should not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours following the anesthesia experience.
  • Please wear loose-fitting clothing with sleeves that can be rolled up past the elbow and low-heeled shoes.
